Key Person

We believe that children settle best when they have a key person who will spend time

ensuring they get to know them and their parents well, and who can meet their individual

needs. We will allocate your child(ren) with a key person before they start with us.

The key person is responsible for:

  • Acting as your main point of contact
  • Providing an induction for your family and for settling your child into the preschool.
  • Working with you to deliver a personalised plan for your child’s well-being, care and learning.
  • Keeping up-to-date records and sharing information with you on a regular basis.
  • Encouraging positive relationships between your child and other children in her/his key
group, spending time with them in a group and one to one.
  • Working with other professionals that are involved with your child and coordinating the
sharing of appropriate information about your child’s development

Settling-in

We want children to feel safe, stimulated and happy in the preschool. We also want parents

to have confidence both their children’s well-being and their role as active partners in our

setting. When your child is due to start with us, we will explain the process of settling in

and jointly decide on the best way to settle your child in. We expect that a parent, carer or

close relative will stay as required until the child is able to cope. Younger children will

take longer to settle in, as will children who have not previously spent time away from home.
