Settling into your new nursery

At The Play Cabin we understand that every child is unique, that’s why we work closely with parents to find the best way to support your child with the transition. The settling in process is an important one, as children need to feel happy; secure with our staff, to really start to make progress.

It can be beneficial for most children, when they first start with us,  for you to stay in the nursery to help them settle into their new environment. The reassurance of having you there helps us build our bond, and develop their understanding that you will be coming back.

Key Person

We believe that children settle best when they have, what we call, ‘a key person’. A key person spends one-to-one time getting to know their specified child and their parents,  so they can meet their individual needs on a deeper level. We will allocate your child(ren) with a key person when they start with us.

This key person will:

  • Act as your main point of contact
  • Provide an induction for your family
  • Work with you to deliver a personalised plan for your child’s well-being, care and learning.
  • Keep up-to-date records and share information with you on a regular basis.
  • Encourage positive relationships between your child and other children.

Encouraging your child to develop

We value the involvement of parents in the setting and work with you to ensure that children make seamless transitions between learning at home and at the preschool. We achieve this through maintaining effective communication between key workers and parents. Key workers use the information you provide about your child’s interests at home to create a development plan that takes those interests into consideration. We will provide you with regular feedback on their progress and any other actions you can take to further support their learning. Parents are also encouraged to get involved in the preschool in a variety of ways including;

  • Attending trips organised by the preschool.
  • Using specific skills to enhance the preschool curriculum.
  • Supporting fundraising activities/events.

Allergies & Diet at The Play Cabin

In each session, we provide children with a healthy snack consisting of milk, water, crackers, fruit or vegetables. If your child is staying for lunch, please provide a healthy packed lunch. Hot food must be provided in a food flask as we cannot re-heat food for health and safety reasons. We ask that you contribute some fresh fruits each week. These fruits are shared between the children at snack times.
